For international trade, some countries require a statement of the Latin Name of the animal species, in order to identify the materials accurately.

The most common species are:

Bos taurus - European type, domestic bovine

Bos indicus - Bovine animals with humps, typically from tropical areas

Ovis aries - Domestic sheep, including hair sheep

Capra hircus - Domestic goat

Sus scrofa - Domestic pig

Babalus bubalis - Water buffalo
