Industry Safeguards

The UK leather industry has a long-standing reputation for quality, consistency and reliability. This is underpinned by a comprehensive and constantly evolving system of regulations and voluntary industry agreements and accreditation systems.

Regulations apply at every stage of the process from the procurement of raw material, through processing to the sale of leather and disposal of wastes.

Industry agreements cover aspects such as standard international contracts and an international code of practice on the way that leather is measured.

Accreditation systems include company management systems, systems for managing environmental impact and systems for managing health and safety of employees.
